On March 6th, 2013, the Chicago Supporters of FC Bayern Munich was founded by a small group of Bayern fans living in Chicago. Though still unofficial, our numbers grew quickly as fans all across the Chicagoland area finally found their home.
April 6th marked our first major celebration as a fan club. Just one month after our founding, we threw a party and celebrated as Bayern officially secured their first title in two years!
On April 19th, our application to be an official fan club was approved by FC Bayern. Becoming an official fan club was a huge milestone for us, and allowed us to have access to exclusive perks.
Our next milestone came on April 23rd, as our fan club officially broke through the 1,000 fan barrier (according to Facebook). With more than 97% of these fans living within 50 miles of Chicago, this milestone represents an estimated 20% of all the Bayern fans living in the area.
On May 25th, the long-awaited final between FC Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund was finally here! With 150+ Bayern fans in attendance, we gathered at Cleos (along with the Chicago Dortmund fan club!) and cheered and watched as our beloved Bayern won their first Champions League title since 2001!
On the last match day of the season, we once again gathered at Cleos to cheer on Bayern against southern-rivals VfB Stuttgart. With Bayern winning 3-2, we celebrated all of the victories of the season as our team had won the first treble in German football history!
On August 19th, 2013 we launched our formal website at www.FCBChicago.com, in order to give fellow Bayern fans in Chicago a place to find out more information about our club, register as a member, and share media from our events. Along with a new website, we also implemented a new online store, and presented our fan scarf as our first official piece of fan merchandise!
Less than one year after the original founding of our fan club's Facebook page, we reached a historic milestone of having 2,500 fans. This figure represented roughly half of all Bayern fans within 50 miles of Chicago at the time. Even so, 97% of these fans were within our target area of the Chicago metro.
With registrations of new fan club members coming in daily, we reached a new milestone of 500 registered fans!
